A TEAM from Colne’s Business Improvement District (BID) spent the town’s traditional Half Day Closing on Tuesday afternoon, Cleaning Up Colne.

Joined by Pick Up For Pendle, members of the public, the chairman of The Horsfield Residents’ Association, Kevin McNulty, and Colne Town Councillors, Sarah Cockburn-Price and Ash Sutcliffe, the team gathered a whopping 35 bags of rubbish, plus three bags of recycling. They also reported fly tipping to Pendle’s Environmental Crimes Unit.
Colne BID Chairman, Stuart Wilson, explained: “Covering Skipton Road, Norfolk Street, Newmarket Street, Windybank and Windybank Wood, we achieved a great deal in just two hours. We Cleaned Up Colne in Horsfield! Many thanks to Pendle Borough Council, who supplied our rubbish sacks and picked up the piles we formed at pre-agreed pick up points. We also couldn’t have managed without the expertise of Pick Up For Pendle.”

Colne’s BID, which aims to boost business in the town over the next five years, plans to hold mass litter picking sessions quarterly under its Pride agenda, one of its four areas of focus. It hopes that its next Clean Up Colne session in February 2019 will be of an even large scale and will cover more of the town.

“We aim to support Colne’s businesses in everything we do, including sourcing from them, where possible”, said BID Deputy Chairman, Emma Cornish. “Thanks to BID companies, Textstyles, which supplied our High Vis and the Mighty Pound Store, which supplied our gloves and litter pickers for this project.”
