Colne Businesses Get A Fresh Lick Of Paint

COLNE BID is launching a new initiative called A Fresh Lick of Paint.  The idea is that each year for the next four years.  Colne BID will make up to £10,000 available under its core “Pride” remit to redecorate the exteriors of businesses within the BID Area.  (Subject to Funds being available).

Jane Turner, of Tubbs of Colne, whose brainchild this was, explained: “We have the power to see 80 plus businesses transformed externally during our first BID term.  We are offering up to £500, or half the cost of the external redecoration, whichever is lower, as a grant .  We are also opening up the A Fresh Lick of Paint Scheme to include signage and canopy refreshing.”

Other key conditions are:

  • Payment will be in arrears upon completion
  • The Scheme is first come, first served
  • Quotations to be submitted in advance
  • Paint colours in the Conservation Area will be closely scrutinised
  • Professional contractors only to do the work and the Colne BID Board will supply a list of preferred Colne-based suppliers
  • Businesses must agree to publicity and to display the A Fresh Lick of Paint sticker
  • Businesses must have paid their BID Levy to be eligible.

“This new Scheme was designed to supplement Pendle Borough Council’s Premises Improvement Grant”, commented Cllr Sarah Cockburn-Price, who along with Cllr Margaret Foxley and Cllr Dorothy Lord, is responsible for this capital improvement grant.  “Pendle Council’s scheme only has a couple of months left to run (applications must be in by 31st March 2020) and we have money in our Colne BID pot, so applicants need to get their skates on with their applications!  The Pendle Council Grant only applies to the tightly drawn boundaries of the Town Centre, not the entire BID Area.  However, it should be perfectly possible for many businesses applying for A Fresh Lick of Paint to also apply to The Premises Improvement Grant and receive up to a total of £3,500 for capital improvements, redecoration and signage – that’s exciting, as together, we are agents of real, positive change.”

Colne BID is looking to work with local Colne or Pendle-based businesses to develop a preferred supplier list for external painting, signage, canopies, paint supplies, joinery or handyman services.  Please get in touch with Lisa Durkin, Colne BID Manager if you are interested.

Colne BID will be communicating individually with eligible BID businesses with details of its grant scheme, as will Pendle Borough Council.  Potential applicants should contact Lisa Durkin, Colne BID Manager via e-mail: manager@colnebid.co.uk re A Fresh Lick of Paint and Mike Williams via e-mail: michael.williams@pendle.gov.uk re the Pendle Council Premises Improvement Grant.
