WITH St Valentine’s Day fast approaching, the Colne BID team is seeking people who love their town as much as they do.
BID Board Chairman, Stuart Wilson, explained: “We are desperately seeking Colne Lovers to help us Clean Up Colne for St. Valentine’s Day. We are holding our second Clean Up Colne on Tuesday, 12th February and we want an even bigger team than we garnered in November to make the town utterly spick and span for the big day on 14th.”
Back in November, the Colne BID team was Joined by Pick Up For Pendle, members of the public, the chairman of The Horsfield Residents’ Association, Kevin McNulty, and Colne Town Councillors, Sarah Cockburn-Price and Ash Sutcliffe. The team gathered a whopping 35 bags of rubbish, plus three bags of recycling. They also reported fly tipping to Pendle’s Environmental Crimes Unit.
The meeting point for Tuesday 12th’s Clean Up Colne is outside Coversure Insurance at 1 p.m. The Valentine’s Clean Up Colne session will last no more than two hours.
BID Board Member, Joanne Peasey explained: “One of our four objectives is “Pride in Colne” – this is because we believe that if Colne is looking its best, more people will want to visit and if more people visit that’s good for town centre businesses. We aim to eradicate litter from Colne’s Red Lion Car Park, Skipton Road, plus Dockray Street, Windy Bank and the Windy Bank Wood.”
The BID Board is being supported in its Clean Up Colne initiative by Pendle Borough Council, which is providing the rubbish sacks and is picking up the rubbish the group collects.
Volunteer community group, Pick Up For Pendle, is also providing logistical expertise and is joining the BID Board members, who chose Tuesday afternoon because it is Half Day closing in Colne.
